The Dangers of Bleach

My initial questions I had about why do so many kids have asthma and allergies led into a spider web of information so I’ll try and keep my thoughts organized and start with some of the products in your household that are contributing to repertory issues.

First of all is bleach (chlorine bleach), it aggravates the membranes in the lower respiratory system, causing shortness of breath and wheezing. Think about everything with bleach…Clorox products, Lysol products, Tilex, Cascade etc. Do you ever really read the warning label? No, most don’t so don’t feel bad, I never did. I just went with the notion that it’s there in the store and a Lysol toilet bowl cleaner is what you use to clean the toilet. The warning labels are there for a reason, just remember that.

Here are some facts about bleach:
1. When you mix it with ammonia the gas it creates is deadly. Urine contains ammonia so using bleach in your toilet can increase the risk of a toxic gas forming.
2. When chlorine is in a gaseous form (which it is at room temperature) it’s a known cancer-causing compound and related to birth defects, miscarriage, infertility, diabetes and immune disorders.
3. Pets are more susceptible to all of this because of their small air capacity and likelihood of filling their lungs with the vapors.

Do you remember your history lessons and reading about mustard gas that was used in WWI because it was lethal…guess how you make it…mix bleach and dish soap. Are those both in your cabinet? Makes you stop and think.

Bleach doesn’t actually have any ‘cleaning properties’ so if you think you are cleaning when you use bleach you are really just taking the color out of the dirt. It does have some disinfecting properties but if a cleaning product contains bleach it’s not the bleach that’s doing the actual cleaning.

Mickey Mouse Birthday Party

To view items from this party or request an item visit my Welcoming Sentiments Etsy shop.

Another year has come and gone and JP is now 2.  Everyone told me it would go fast and I've noticed all along but it doesn't help slow it down at all!  That's why I love that I can be home with him so I can soak up all of these fun moments.

We have started to watch a little TV.  Sometimes I just need to get dinner cooked or something done and need his attention elsewhere.  It's life, and we shouldn't feel guilty about doing it a little.  I say that but still have that 'mom guilt' that I'm not paying attention to him.  Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is one of his favorites.  Mickey Mouse was his first unprompted 2 word phrase and Mickey Mouse House was his first unprompted 3 word phrase.  That only meant that we needed a Mickey Mouse birthday party.  This year I did do most everything for the party myself so I was happy about that.  We kept it small this year and once aga…

Growing my Etsy shop

I will slowly be adding items to my shop and will likely focus on downloadable printables.  I love crafting and hand making items for parties and things like that but I want time for that to be my own hobby and not having the only time I do it to be for 'work'.

JP has started pre-school already, I can't believe it!  It gives me a little time each day to get something done in peace.  It's just like when he used to nap but I don't have to stay home!  That may sound like I'm thrilled he's in school and part of me is.  He is so excited each day to go and comes out with a big smile saying he had fun at school today.  That makes me happy.  The first day was not good for me.  I held it together until I got back in the truck but then I cried.  Luckily I had scheduled a meeting that first day to keep my mind off of it so time passed and we were all good.  Now that I know he's happy I can be a little more excited to have some time back ;)

I've had requests f…

Monkey 1st Birthday

This post is very late but as my multitasking mind takes over I am now on my 3rd different thing that I'm doing on the computer besides what I sat down to do.

When planning his birthday party and theme I went with a general monkey theme.  We don't watch a lot of TV and really it's hard to tell what a 1 year old in really 'into'.  My cousin Beth with Beth Kruse Custom Creations designed my party printables.  I normally do this kind of thing on my own but there were just too many things going on in our lives at the time for me to add 1 more thing to my plate.  She has fabulous parties so I knew I was outsourcing to someone great!
